What used ATV would you buy if it were your money? One of the most common questions the editors at ATV Rider get asked is, what used ATV would you buy if it were your money. Buying a used ATV can be tricky, due to the nature of the terrain they live their life in. So, a thorough observation of every used machine is imperative before pulling the trigger. With that said, assuming the machines have been taken care of, we'd recommend these five used ATV's without reservation. 1Honda TRX450R Even though the 450R has only undergone small changes since it's introduction in 2004, it's reputation and reliability has become legendary. The 450r has won countless desert, MX, TT, and XC championships, but it's just as comfortable being a trail machine. The aftermarket support for the 450r is also impressive, with parts available to replace or modify almost everything. 2Suzuki LTR450 Only produced from 2006 to 2009, the Suzuki LTR450 is an amazing machine. Legendary reliability and performance in this fuel injected beast has allowed it to win numerous MX and a GNCC championships. In fact, GNCC champion Chris Borich is on his way to winning his sixth championship since switching to Suzuki back in 2009. 2009 model LTR's were technically sold as leftover models as late as 2011, but now the only way to score one is by finding a nice used machine. 3Yamaha Grizzly 700 Introduced as a 2007 model, Yamaha helped introduce the world to Electric Power Steering (EPS) on an ATV. Small, incremental changes have graced the Grizzly, but it's gone fairly unchanged up through model year 2013. The Grizzly is comfortable, sporty, and also makes an excellent work machine. Over the years, it's also proven itself to be one of the most reliable machines we've ever tested. 4Launched in 2003-2005 as the TRX650, and then updated to the TRX680 in 2006, the Rincon has been essentially unchanged since 2006. The Rincon features a three-speed transmission featuring an automotive style torque converter transmission. Although it's missing a locking front differential and the brute power of many competitors, the Rincon is absolutely bump-proof. I've spoken to numerous owners with well over 20,000 off-road miles on their own Rincon with zero problems. Although more at home on the trails, the Rincon has own numerous Baja 1000 desert racing titles. 5Kawasaki Brute Force 750
2005 marked the launch of the Kawasaki Brute Force 750. Featuring independent suspension and Kawasaki's amazing V-twin power plant, it was an immediate hit. In 2012, the Brute Force went through a complete revision and Kawasaki added Electric Power Steering (EPS), which greatly enhanced the performance out on the trail. The engine is the heart of the Brute Force and is certainly the main reason buyers are attracted to it. In the used market, the 2012 and newer models would be my preference, but the original Brute Force is also an excellent machine.
